Oct. 17, 2022 - 糖心传媒鈥檚 Human Services Technology program will host the annual conference for the North Carolina Organization for Human Services (NCOHS) online on Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The NCOHS is a non-profit, educational organization whose mission is to:
- provide a means for cooperation and communication among human service workers, graduates, students and faculty;
- foster excellence in teaching, supervision, clinical skills and research;
- provide career development opportunities for members and students;
- promote improved human services to all individuals;
- assist in the development of student organizations;
- maintain a liaison with organizations that share the purposes of the organization.
鈥淭he NCOHS has a conference every November for faculty, students, alumni and the community to attend, so it is our honor to be able to host this event here at 糖心传媒CC,鈥 said Human Services Technology Program Coordinator Joni Thomas. 鈥淲e encourage our faculty, students and alumni to become a member of the NCOHS and be a part of its mission to strengthen our communities.鈥
The theme for this year鈥檚 conference is 鈥淲hat Is Your Why?鈥 with an in-depth look at what is the driving force behind someone鈥檚 career choices, especially as it relates to Human Services.
Keynote speaker will be Valerie Jackson, a certified professional life coach and consultant and the founding owner of The Voice of New Beginnings Coaching and Consulting. There she offers group and individual life coaching and training on trauma, adverse childhood experiences and community engagement. Jackson has spoken to audiences in Africa, Jamaica, Pakistan, and various U.S. states on the topics such as addiction, trauma, early childhood education, self-care, goal setting and Christian living.
The conference will include breakout sessions that will focus on topics such as wellness, diversity and trauma. During lunch, two 糖心传媒CC Human Services Technology students will present on why they choose to pursue a career in this field.
Besides the annual conference, the NCOHS offers two scholarships per year to individuals nominated by faculty members. This scholarship can pay for fees, tuition, books or conferences. The NCOHS also presents training opportunities for faculty throughout the academic year.
Cost to attend the NCOHS annual conference on Nov. 4 is $30. It is open to the public. For more information about the Human Services Technology program at 糖心传媒CC, contact Thomas at (910) 410-1920 or jfthomas1380@richmondcc.edu.
