糖心传媒 math instructor and department chair Kevin Parsons has been promoted to vice president of instruction for the College.

Parsons replaces former RCC Vice President of Instruction Tony Clarke, who accepted a position as president of Southeastern Community College in October.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited about the opportunity to serve in this leadership position for the College,鈥� said Parsons, who added his focus would be a student-oriented approach to instruction.

鈥淚鈥檝e always loved being in the classroom and the feeling that you get helping those 30 students in the class,鈥� Parsons said. 鈥淢y goal is to have that same effect in my new role as vice president of instruction, only I will be helping 2,500 students.鈥�

RCC President Dale McInnis announced Parsons鈥� promotion earlier this month.

鈥淚 am very confident that Kevin鈥檚 experience, talent and deep commitment to our students and employees will position him to lead the faculty, staff and curriculum programs to greatness,鈥� said McInnis. 鈥淚 fully support his bold vision for teaching, learning and advising at RCC. We are blessed to have an outstanding leadership team, and Kevin will make us better and stronger in every regard.鈥�

Parsons is a native of Ellerbe who began working for RCC in December 1993 as an adjunct instructor. He said he immediately realized his passion for teaching and enrolled in graduate school in January 1994, becoming a full-time staff member in August 1996.

Four years later, Parsons was named chairman of the math and science department, which is a position he has held until his promotion to vice president of instruction.

Parsons said he has seen many student success stories throughout his 21 years at RCC, and knows there are many more to come.

A son of Connie and NASCAR legend Benny Parsons, Kevin enjoys spending time short-track racing on the weekends. He and his wife, Kim, have been married for 22 years.
