The new year is quickly approaching, which also means a new semester will begin at 糖心传媒. Classes for Spring Semester 2016 begin Jan. 8 with final registration being held Jan. 5-7.

Students who are currently enrolled should meet with their advisor and schedule their spring classes to make sure they get the classes they need to advance toward their degree, diploma or certificate.

New students should also begin taking the steps to get enrolled this spring such as or in person on one of 糖心传媒CC鈥檚 two campuses located in Hamlet and Laurinburg. 糖心传媒CC has an on-going registration policy, so new students can come to campus anytime and register for classes.

Engineering Is Strong at 糖心传媒CC

糖心传媒CC offers a variety of engineering programs that are housed in the Forte Building, the College鈥檚 state-of-the art engineering technology facility. Programs include computer, mechanical and electrical engineering, electronics, industrial systems and mechatronics.

Students who enroll in the Mechatronics Engineering program will gain vast knowledge from five areas of engineering, including electrical and electronics, automation and robotics, instrumentation and controls, electromechanical systems and industrial systems.

鈥淢any people overlook the Mechatronics program because they don鈥檛 know what it is,鈥� said Amir Niczad, Engineering Department chair. 鈥淏ut this is a valuable degree to have because it is a mixture of electrical, mechanical, computer and control engineering, which makes the graduate of this program more attractive to future employers.鈥�

Earning an Electronics Engineering degree provides a broad range of options for employment from the automotive to the power to the railway industry, all of which have a presence in 糖心传媒 and Scotland counties.

One of the broadest engineering disciplines, Mechanical Engineering Technology teaches students how to research, design, develop, build and test mechanical and thermal devices, including tools, engines and machines.

糖心传媒CC鈥檚 signature engineering program, Electrical Utility Substation and Relay Technology (EUSRT), has a 100 percent job placement rate in the utility industry. Students in the program are receiving job offers before they graduate, according to lead instructor Steve Lampley.

Students can opt to enter the two-year degree program or begin with the one-year diploma program.

A New Type of Healthcare Worker

The Dialysis Technology program, which was started a few semesters ago at 糖心传媒CC, is a valuable program for someone who is interested in entering the healthcare field. The program prepares technicians to work in dialysis centers, hospitals and other healthcare settings that offer dialysis treatment.

鈥淒ialysis is a life-sustaining treatment, and you want a healthcare provider who is not only knowledgeable but also empathetic because you鈥檙e going to be seeing them not just one time but several times a week for several hours at a time,鈥� said Renea Craven, who is Allied Health chair at 糖心传媒CC.

Online Certificate in Public Administration

糖心传媒CC has added a new certificate in public administration to its curriculum that will prepare students for entry level as well as senior administrative and clerical careers in state, county, city and town governments. Employment is primarily with government entities and agencies of government entities.

The Public Administration Certificate will consist of six classes, all of which are offered completely online:

• Principles of Management
• Introduction to Public Administration
• Ethics in Government
• Public Finance and Budgeting
• Public Policy Analysis
• Human Resources Management

鈥淭he certificate is designed for individuals who are working in the public sector or wish to find employment in the public sector,鈥� said Dr. Devon Hall, Business & Technologies Department chair.

鈥淪tatewide, more people are employed in public administration than in healthcare. In fact, in North Carolina more people work in the public sector than any other sector. It is a challenging and rewarding field to enter.鈥�

In addition to the certificate, students majoring in Business Administration can also opt to concentrate in Public Administration.

Other Programs

糖心传媒CC offers more than 60 degree, diploma and certificate programs in business, accounting, education, criminal justice, trade skills, information technology, healthcare and human services. The College offers day, evening and online classes for flexible scheduling. Late start classes will also be available this spring semester.
