Board of Trustees Approves Multi-campus Status Application, New Fine Arts Degree

Aug 3

Aug. 3, 2017 - At its Tuesday, Aug. 1 meeting, the 糖心传媒 Board of Trustees approved the college鈥檚 application for multi-campus status in Laurinburg to be submitted to the State Board of Community Colleges.

The board鈥檚 approval comes on the heels of a unanimous vote of support and endorsement by the Scotland County Board of Commissioners for multi-campus status with the acquisition of new space from the Morgan Center and Covington Street Elementary School to be combined with the Honeycutt Center in Laurinburg.

With the addition of these two facilities to the Honeycutt Center, the College will be able to house the Scotland Early College (SEARCH) program and offer expanded programs and services to the people of Scotland County beginning fall 2018.

鈥淥ur goal is to make the new campus in Laurinburg a destination for the region for many, many years to come. We are excited about Scotland County鈥檚 future and our role in supporting its growth and success,鈥 said Dr. Dale McInnis, president of 糖心传媒CC.

Once the State Board of Community Colleges approves the application for multi-campus status, the College will begin pursuing state funding to provide staffing and support for the additional facilities in Laurinburg.

Listening to student and community demand, the Board of Trustees also approved the addition of the Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts to the College鈥檚 curriculum programs.

The fully transferable program is similar to 糖心传媒CC鈥檚 Associate in Arts degree, but it includes required courses in design, drawing, art history and art appreciation.

鈥淲e believe there is a market for this university transfer program, and we hope to attract students who are interested in art and want to improve their talents,鈥 McInnis said.

Even though the program won鈥檛 be officially added to the college catalog until Spring Semester 2018, Vice President for Instruction Kevin Parsons said students enrolling this fall can begin taking the courses in this degree program. Next semester, they would be moved in the Fine Arts in Visual Arts program and be on the right track for earning the two-year transferable associate degree.
