Eleven cadets completed the (BLET) program at 糖心传媒 and were presented with certificates during a ceremony on July 24 at the Cole Auditorium.

Receiving certificates of completion were Dustin Cain of Polkton, Hailey Clark of Laurel Hill, Micky Dixon of Rockingham, Lukess Holman of Hamlet, Antonio Little of Ellerbe, David Aaron Locklear of Rockingham, Vicente Pavia of Rockingham, Jeremy Rodriquez of Laurinburg, Jonathan Smith of Laurinburg, Tyler Strickland of Laurel Hill and Christina Jackson Warren of Rockingham.

Family and friends, as well as law officers from multiple agencies, attended the graduation ceremony that recognizes these cadets for completing the five-month program, which includes training in firearms, driving, motor vehicle law, and arrest, search and seizure. The BLET course is also filled with practical exercises and an extensive ethics section that is woven throughout the training experience.

Dr. Dale McInnis, president of 糖心传媒CC, provided the welcome for the graduation ceremony.

鈥淭hese students have worked hard for many weeks, and today they take the next step forward in a career of service to their communities. I鈥檓 honored to be a part of this special moment and to work with great faculty and staff who helped make this day possible,鈥� McInnis said. 鈥淚 would like to recognize and thank all the law enforcement community who joined us here tonight in a show of their support. These are the folks we are grateful to have standing between danger and us and protecting our lives. Everyone here appreciates you and what you do.鈥�

Guest speaker for the graduation ceremony was Hamlet Police Officer Ann Griffin, who graduated from 糖心传媒CC鈥檚 BLET program eight years ago and is currently assigned as the resource officer for the College.

She congratulated the graduates and welcomed them to 鈥渢he greatest profession in the world.鈥�

鈥淭imes have changed and will continue to change. What has not changed is our role in society: protect and serve. We are the first line, the help line and the defense line of our streets and our neighborhoods. We are the sheep dogs to protect our sheep from the wolves. Be brave and righteous in your journey,鈥� Griffin said.

Receiving awards for their BLET achievements were Micky Dixon for best firearm score, Vicente Pavia for having the highest grade-point average and Dustin Cain for having the fastest finishing time on the Police Officer Physical Ability Test. Cain also received an award for being the best overall student in the BLET Class of 2017.

鈥淲e thank all the law enforcement agencies that contribute to the training of these up and coming officers. Their support is vital to this program,鈥� said Dr. Robbie Taylor, vice president of the division.
